Coworking spaces are more about the human element and less about performance. This represents a fundamentally new interpretation of work. There is something very special about coworking spaces and it is about time that we all realize that coworking is much more than just a trend. So, what can we learn from coworking spaces? And why are people choose to work there?

Today, work enjoyment, meeting people, socialization and exchanging ideas are becoming the basic values around which the most time-intensive activity of our current society revolves. Studies have shown that people working in coworking spaces have more purpose as they have control and flexibility in their work environment. As a result, they are happier, motivated, and see their work as more meaningful.

It is essential to note that the concept of socialization was not forced on the members. These workers still have the freedom to decide when and how they want to socialize. There are those who prefer to enjoy meaningful discussions over coffee, while others can interact as they work. There are still those who prefer to work alone and in solitude, but it was interesting to note even for these, the sense of community was important in fostering a strong sense of identity. The fact that workers know that they can interact freely when they desire helps to promote a community feel and freedom.

In coworking spaces, people work independently with less hierarchy. Workers are accountable for their own projects, progress, and working methods. These conditions prevent “social idleness” and counter-productive behaviors such as hierarchical competitions. Coworking spaces give them room to just be themselves. Compared to corporate employees, who in many instances still are expected to show up in the office space within normal working hours, many of the people who make use of coworking spaces have the freedom and flexibility to work wherever and whenever.
